# Connect Claude Code to Tesselith

> Add Tesselith to Claude Code with one command and schedule social posts from your terminal, your repo or a CI job.

Canonical: https://tesselith.com/ai-agents/claude-code

**Before you start:** You need Claude Code installed and a Tesselith workspace on Pro, Team or Agency (every new workspace starts with a 14-day Pro trial) with at least one channel connected. Sign in through your browser for day-to-day use, or use an API key on servers and in CI.

## Quick setup

```bash
# 1. Add the Tesselith MCP server (available in every project)
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user tesselith https://api.tesselith.com/mcp
# 2. Start Claude Code and sign in
claude
/mcp   # select tesselith → Authenticate
```

No browser on this machine? Use the API key option further down this page instead.

## Step by step

### 1. Add the server with claude mcp add

Options go before the name and URL. --scope user makes Tesselith available in every project; leave it off to add it to the current project only (stored privately in ~/.claude.json), or use --scope project to write a shared .mcp.json to the repo.

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user tesselith https://api.tesselith.com/mcp
```

### 2. Sign in with /mcp

Start Claude Code, run /mcp, select tesselith and choose Authenticate. A Tesselith window opens. Sign in, pick the workspace, untick anything you don't want the agent to do, and click Allow access. You can also run claude mcp login tesselith from the shell, adding --no-browser over SSH to get a link to open elsewhere.

### 3. Share it with your team (optional)

A project-scoped server lives in .mcp.json at the repo root. Commit it without credentials, and each teammate signs in with their own account. Claude Code asks every person to approve project servers the first time.

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "tesselith": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://api.tesselith.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

### 4. Check the connection

claude mcp list shows the server and whether it's connected, and /mcp inside a session lists its tools. Ask Claude to list your Tesselith channels to confirm.

```bash
claude mcp list
claude mcp get tesselith
```

## With an API key

On a server or in CI, where nobody can finish a browser sign-in, pass a key as a header. In Tesselith, open Settings → Developers, create an API key and tick only the scopes the agent needs. Keys start with tsl_live_ and are shown once, so store it in your password manager or a secret store. In .mcp.json use ${TESSELITH_API_KEY} so the key itself never lands in git.

```bash
export TESSELITH_API_KEY=tsl_live_…
claude mcp add --transport http \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer $TESSELITH_API_KEY" \
  tesselith https://api.tesselith.com/mcp
```

## Troubleshooting

- **claude mcp add succeeded but tools fail:** Adding a server doesn't check credentials. Run /mcp to see the real status and authenticate there.
- **It keeps failing instead of asking you to sign in:** An Authorization header is configured, so Claude Code won't fall back to OAuth. Remove the server and add it again without --header.
- **"already exists in local config":** Remove the existing entry with claude mcp remove tesselith, or add it under a different --scope.
- **claude -p can't sign in:** Headless mode can't open a browser. Sign in once interactively, or use the API key header.
- **${TESSELITH_API_KEY} shows up literally:** The variable isn't set in the shell that started Claude Code. Export it and restart.

## Questions people ask

### Which scope should I use?

--scope user for personal use across all projects, project to share the server with your team through .mcp.json, and the default local scope for one project on your machine only.

### How do I remove Tesselith from Claude Code?

Run claude mcp logout tesselith to revoke the sign-in, then claude mcp remove tesselith.

### Can Claude Code schedule posts from a CI pipeline?

Yes. Use an API key with only the scopes the job needs, passed as a header, and run Claude Code headlessly with claude -p.

### Does Claude Code share connectors with claude.ai?

Claude Code can use connectors from your claude.ai account, but servers you add with claude mcp add take precedence, so adding Tesselith directly is the most predictable setup.
