# Connect Cursor to Tesselith

> Add Tesselith to Cursor's mcp.json and let Cursor's agent draft and schedule social posts while you code.

Canonical: https://tesselith.com/ai-agents/cursor

**Before you start:** You need a recent version of Cursor and a Tesselith workspace on Pro, Team or Agency (every new workspace starts with a 14-day Pro trial) with at least one channel connected.

## Quick setup

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "tesselith": {
      "url": "https://api.tesselith.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

Use ~/.cursor/mcp.json for every project, or .cursor/mcp.json for one repo.

## Step by step

### 1. Add Tesselith to mcp.json

Create or open ~/.cursor/mcp.json (all projects) or .cursor/mcp.json (this project) and add the server. Leave out headers to sign in with your Tesselith account.

### 2. Enable it and sign in

Open Cursor's MCP settings (Customize, or Settings → Tools & MCP on older versions), find tesselith and enable it. Cursor opens your browser to sign in. A Tesselith window opens. Sign in, pick the workspace, untick anything you don't want the agent to do, and click Allow access.

### 3. Check the tools

The server should show as enabled with its tools listed. If not, open Output (Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+U) and choose MCP Logs.

### 4. Ask the agent

In the agent chat, ask Cursor to list your Tesselith channels, then to draft a post from the file you're working on.

## With an API key

To skip the browser sign-in, reference a key from your environment with ${env:…}. In Tesselith, open Settings → Developers, create an API key and tick only the scopes the agent needs. Keys start with tsl_live_ and are shown once, so store it in your password manager or a secret store. Start Cursor from a shell where the variable is exported.

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "tesselith": {
      "url": "https://api.tesselith.com/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer ${env:TESSELITH_API_KEY}"
      }
    }
  }
}
```

## Troubleshooting

- **Cursor never asks you to sign in:** A headers entry is set. Remove it, then toggle the server off and on.
- **${env:TESSELITH_API_KEY} is empty:** Cursor was opened from the dock, not a shell with the variable. Run cursor . from that shell, or restart.
- **The server shows as failed:** Open Output → MCP Logs for the error, then toggle the server off and on.
- **Two Tesselith entries:** A project .cursor/mcp.json and the global file both define it. Keep one.

## Questions people ask

### Global or project mcp.json?

Global (~/.cursor/mcp.json) if you want Tesselith in every project; project (.cursor/mcp.json) to share it with a team, without credentials in the file.

### Do Cursor's cloud agents use my Tesselith connection?

Cloud agents keep their own sign-in. Connect Tesselith for them separately in Cursor's MCP settings.

### Can I commit mcp.json?

Yes, as long as it has no literal API key. Use ${env:TESSELITH_API_KEY} or the browser sign-in.
