# Connect VS Code (GitHub Copilot) to Tesselith

> Add Tesselith to VS Code and let GitHub Copilot's agent mode draft and schedule social posts.

Canonical: https://tesselith.com/ai-agents/vs-code

**Before you start:** You need VS Code with GitHub Copilot (agent mode) and a Tesselith workspace on Pro, Team or Agency (every new workspace starts with a 14-day Pro trial) with at least one channel connected. In company accounts, your GitHub organization must allow MCP servers.

## Quick setup

```json
{
  "servers": {
    "tesselith": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://api.tesselith.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

Or run MCP: Add Server from the Command Palette, choose HTTP and paste the URL.

## Step by step

### 1. Run MCP: Add Server

Open the Command Palette (Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+P), run MCP: Add Server, choose HTTP, paste the URL, name it tesselith and choose whether to save it for your user or this workspace.

```text
https://api.tesselith.com/mcp
```

### 2. Trust the server and sign in

Accept VS Code's trust prompt. On first use it opens your browser to sign in. A Tesselith window opens. Sign in, pick the workspace, untick anything you don't want the agent to do, and click Allow access.

### 3. Switch Copilot Chat to Agent mode

Open Copilot Chat, pick Agent mode and open the tools picker. The Tesselith tools should be listed and ticked.

### 4. Ask Copilot

Ask it to list your Tesselith channels, then to draft a post. Copilot asks before running each tool.

## With an API key

VS Code can prompt for a key once and store it securely with an input. In Tesselith, open Settings → Developers, create an API key and tick only the scopes the agent needs. Keys start with tsl_live_ and are shown once, so store it in your password manager or a secret store.

```json
{
  "inputs": [
    {
      "type": "promptString",
      "id": "tesselith-key",
      "description": "Tesselith API key",
      "password": true
    }
  ],
  "servers": {
    "tesselith": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://api.tesselith.com/mcp",
      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer ${input:tesselith-key}" }
    }
  }
}
```

## Troubleshooting

- **No Tesselith tools in chat:** Switch Copilot Chat to Agent mode and check the tools picker.
- **MCP is blocked:** Your GitHub organization's Copilot policy disables MCP servers. Ask an admin to allow them.
- **You pasted an mcpServers snippet:** .vscode/mcp.json uses servers with "type": "http", not mcpServers.
- **A key ended up in git:** Use ${input:…} or ${env:…} instead of a literal key, and rotate the leaked key in Tesselith.

## Questions people ask

### Does it work with Copilot Free?

MCP tools run in Copilot's agent mode. If your plan includes agent mode, it works; organizations can also turn MCP off by policy.

### User or workspace configuration?

User configuration makes Tesselith available everywhere; .vscode/mcp.json shares it with a repository's contributors.

### Can VS Code use my Cursor configuration?

VS Code can discover servers from other editors' config files, but adding Tesselith directly is the most reliable setup.
