# Connect Zed to Tesselith

> Add Tesselith to Zed as a remote context server and schedule social posts from Zed's agent panel.

Canonical: https://tesselith.com/ai-agents/zed

**Before you start:** You need a recent Zed and a Tesselith workspace on Pro, Team or Agency (every new workspace starts with a 14-day Pro trial) with at least one channel connected.

## Quick setup

```json
{
  "context_servers": {
    "tesselith": {
      "url": "https://api.tesselith.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

Or use Settings → AI → MCP Servers → Add Server → Add Remote Server.

## Step by step

### 1. Add the remote server

Open Settings → AI → MCP Servers, click Add Server and choose Add Remote Server, or add the entry to settings.json yourself.

### 2. Sign in

With no Authorization header set, Zed prompts you to sign in. A Tesselith window opens. Sign in, pick the workspace, untick anything you don't want the agent to do, and click Allow access.

### 3. Check the status dot

A green dot next to tesselith means the server is active.

### 4. Use it in the agent panel

Make sure your agent profile includes the Tesselith tools, then ask the agent to list your channels. Zed asks you to confirm tool calls by default.

## With an API key

Zed can send a key as a header instead. In Tesselith, open Settings → Developers, create an API key and tick only the scopes the agent needs. Keys start with tsl_live_ and are shown once, so store it in your password manager or a secret store. Zed doesn't document environment variables in settings.json, so avoid this if your settings file is synced or committed.

```json
{
  "context_servers": {
    "tesselith": {
      "url": "https://api.tesselith.com/mcp",
      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer tsl_live_…" }
    }
  }
}
```

## Troubleshooting

- **Zed never asks you to sign in:** An Authorization header is set. Remove it to use the browser sign-in.
- **The dot isn't green:** Hover it for the error, and update Zed if remote servers aren't supported in your build.
- **The agent doesn't see the tools:** Your agent profile has Tesselith's tools disabled. Enable them in the profile.

## Questions people ask

### Does Zed support OAuth for MCP?

Yes. If a remote server has no Authorization header, Zed runs the standard MCP sign-in flow.

### Can I limit which Tesselith tools Zed uses?

Yes, with agent profiles: disable enable_all_context_servers and list the tools you want.
