How to Schedule Messages and Announcements in Discord (2026)
· 3 min read
Discord has no scheduler for most users. Schedule Discord messages with a bot, a webhook or a scheduling tool: steps for each, plus the beta status.
For most users, Discord doesn't have a built-in way to schedule a message. Discord lists scheduled messages as a beta in its Beta Programs FAQ, open only to randomly selected testers. You can't request access. To schedule a Discord post today, you use a bot, a webhook triggered by an automation tool, or a scheduler that publishes to your channel for you.
The Create Event option in a server menu adds an event to the server's calendar, with an RSVP and a reminder. It doesn't post a message at a set time. If you want an announcement to land in #announcements at 9am, you need one of the options below.
Option 1: Use a scheduling bot
Pick a scheduling bot and invite it to your server. You'll need the Manage Server permission.
Give the bot permission to send messages in the channel you want to post to.
Use its slash command (usually something like /schedule) to set the message, the channel and the time.
Check the time zone: most bots ask for one, or default to UTC.
Bots are free or cheap and support recurring messages. The trade-off is trust: the bot runs on someone else's server, and it needs ongoing access to yours.
Option 2: Use a channel webhook
Every text channel can have webhooks. With the Manage Webhooks permission, open Edit Channel → Integrations → Webhooks → New Webhook, then copy the URL. A webhook can't hold a message until later on its own. Anything that sends a POST request to that URL posts a message into the channel, so a scheduled automation (Zapier, Make, a cron job or a GitHub Action) can post on a timer.
curl -X POST "$DISCORD_WEBHOOK_URL" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"content": "Stream starts in one hour!"}'
Keep the webhook URL secret. Anyone who has it can post to your channel.
Option 3: Schedule Discord with your other channels
Most community announcements go out everywhere at once: Discord, Telegram, X, Bluesky, YouTube. Scheduling them from one calendar means writing the announcement once, adjusting it for each place, and knowing it all goes out on time. Tesselith already schedules to Telegram, Bluesky, Mastodon, Threads, YouTube, Instagram and Facebook. Discord is coming soon, posting to a single channel with files and follow-up messages, without a bot that can see your whole server.
Give the bot Send Messages (and View Channel) in that channel's permissions.
Webhook returns 404
The webhook was deleted or the URL changed. Create a new one and update your automation.
@everyone ping didn't notify
Webhooks and bots need permission to mention everyone, and the message must allow mentions.
Posted at the wrong time
Most bots default to UTC. Set your time zone in the bot or convert the time.

Questions people ask
Can you schedule a message in Discord?
Not natively for most users. Discord's scheduled messages are a beta for randomly selected testers. Everyone else uses a scheduling bot, a channel webhook called by an automation tool, or a scheduler that posts to Discord.
Do I need a bot to schedule Discord messages?
No. A channel webhook plus any automation that can send a request on a timer (Zapier, Make, a cron job) works without a bot.
Are Discord Scheduled Events the same as scheduled messages?
No. Scheduled Events add an event with RSVPs to your server's calendar. They don't post a message at a set time.
Is it safe to use a Discord scheduling bot?
Only give bots the permissions they need, ideally send-message access in a single channel, and remove ones you no longer use.
