How to Cross-Post to Bluesky, Mastodon and Threads at Once (2026)

November 6, 2026 · 4 min read

None of the three apps posts to the others. Here's how to publish one post to Bluesky, Mastodon and Threads at the same time, and what to change for each.

To post to Bluesky, Mastodon and Threads at the same time, use a scheduler that connects to all three, write the post once, and keep a short version for Bluesky. None of the three apps can publish to the others. Bluesky allows 300 characters per post, while Threads and Mastodon allow 500, so the Bluesky version usually decides how long your post can be. In Tesselith you connect each network once, write one post, trim the Bluesky text if the composer flags it, and schedule all three for the same minute.

Key takeaways

  • No native cross-posting exists between Bluesky, Mastodon and Threads. You need a tool that connects to each one.
  • Write to Bluesky's 300-character limit, or write a separate Bluesky version. Threads and Mastodon both allow 500.
  • Connect Bluesky with an app password, Mastodon on whichever server you use, and Threads with your Threads login.
  • Long ideas become reply chains on all three. A good scheduler posts the whole chain in order.
  • Adjust tags: CamelCase hashtags on Mastodon, one topic per post on Threads, feeds over hashtags on Bluesky.

Limits as of November 2026. Every network's limits are in one table in our character limits guide.

Step 1: Connect all three once

  1. Bluesky: in Bluesky, open Settings → Privacy and security → App passwords and create one. Add Bluesky in your scheduler with your handle and that app password. Never use your main password. Our Bluesky scheduling guide covers this step in detail.
  2. Mastodon: add Mastodon and enter your server's address (mastodon.social, fosstodon.org, your own instance). You sign in on your server and approve access there.
  3. Threads: add Threads and sign in with the Threads account you post from.

Step 2: Write once, then trim for Bluesky

Write the post for Threads and Mastodon first, up to 500 characters. If it runs past 300, write a Bluesky version rather than letting the tool cut it off mid-sentence. In Tesselith's composer each network shows its own character count, so you see the overflow as you type and can edit the Bluesky text without touching the other two.

If the idea needs more room, make it a thread: an opening post that works on its own, then replies. All three networks show reply chains as a thread, and Tesselith publishes the replies in order right after the first post.

Step 3: Schedule the same time, or stagger

Posting all three at once is simplest and works well for news. If the same people follow you on more than one network, stagger by an hour or two so the second post doesn't look like an echo. Mastodon's timeline is chronological, so post when your followers there are awake. Our best time to post tool gives a starting point per network.

What to change for each network

  • Mastodon: use a few accurate hashtags in CamelCase (#SmallBusiness), because hashtags are how people find posts. Add alt text to every image; Mastodon users notice when it's missing. See Mastodon for brands.
  • Threads: one topic per post works better than a string of hashtags. The tone is chattier than Instagram, even though the audience overlaps.
  • Bluesky: discovery runs through custom feeds more than hashtags. Alt text is expected here too.
  • All three: a post that's obviously copied from somewhere else gets less engagement. Small edits per network go a long way.

Free ways to do it, and where they stop

  • Post by hand in each app. Free and reliable, but three apps every time, and Bluesky has no scheduler.
  • Threads' fediverse sharing. Where Meta offers it, Threads can share your posts to the fediverse so Mastodon users can follow your Threads account. It doesn't post to your separate Mastodon account or to Bluesky.
  • Bridges like Bridgy Fed. These let fediverse users follow a Bluesky account (and the other way round) without you posting twice. Your followers see one account bridged, not native posts on each network.
  • Open-source scripts. Developers run cross-posting scripts against each network's API. They work if you maintain them.

A scheduler is worth it once you post most days, or once Instagram, Telegram or YouTube are part of the same plan. Tesselith's free plan covers 3 channels, enough for exactly these three.

Questions people ask

Can you cross-post from Threads to Bluesky?
Not from inside Threads. Threads can share posts to the fediverse where Meta offers it, but not to Bluesky. To post to both, use a scheduler that connects to each network, such as Tesselith.
Is there a free tool to post to Bluesky and Mastodon at the same time?
Yes. Tesselith's free plan includes 3 channels, so Bluesky, Mastodon and Threads fit on it. Bridges such as Bridgy Fed are also free, but they bridge one account rather than posting to each network.
What's the character limit on Bluesky, Mastodon and Threads?
Bluesky allows 300 characters per post. Threads allows 500. Mastodon allows 500 by default, but some servers set a higher limit.
Can I schedule a thread to Bluesky and Mastodon?
Yes. In Tesselith you write the opening post and the replies, and they publish in order on each network at the time you schedule.
